I think, for our purposes, the most obvious example of community radio is WNYC, and it’s also a personal favorite of mine. While most public radio today relies heavily on syndicated content from National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Radio International (PRI), WNYC produces the majority of their daily content in New York, and they’ve thus become “the voice of New York City.”
They stream 24/7, and most of their shows are on iTunes as podcasts. Probably their 3 most popular shows are the Brian Lehrer Show (10-noon M-F) and the Leonard Lopate Show (noon-2 M-F), both talk radio shows, and Studio 360, a music show. You can access all of them through the website or, god forbid, on the radio (93.9 FM).
