I don’t know If any of you have ever heard of Improv Everywhere? Well, If you haven’t no worries, because this what this post is about. Improv Everywhere “causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.” The participants and the places are chosen randomly. In order to participate all you have to do is sign up for their mailing list and you’re set.
The reason why I decided to post something about Improv Everywhere is because their “pranks” or “improvisations” always have a message. They found fun, innovative and creative ways to voice their opinions on actual issues. For example, they did this improv act inManhattan’s Abercrombie & Fitch store. They had almost 100 men of all shapes and sizes show up without shirts and walk inside the store for almost an hour. The reason? Abercrombie & Fitch hires only models to work for their stores, and a New York based survey showed that most people find it if not hurtful then closed minded.
Here’s a youtube video of the “incident”…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdeBp8J0rqs
Another one of their “shows” took place in Grand Central. Here they are trying to tell people that time is valuable yes, but sometimes it’s good to just slow down and stop to look around. It’s pretty funny. Enjoy…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwMj3PJDxuo
