Recently, Blockbuster decided to close down the remaining of its 300 retail stores. This is quite sad as it signals to me the washing away of good times. The bane of my generation is our craving for nostalgia and Blockbusters and Twinkies all being in the nostalgia category.
The saying goes “you don’t know a good thing till it’s gone.” However, everybody knew Blockbusters was bad even when it was still around. The problem with Blockbusters is like a lot of companies, they did not take proper advantage of being the first on the scene. They should just have delved into the online business like Netflix. But alas! This is the way of the world and when Netflix shuts down another wave of nostalgia will blanket America but we shall still live on.
