Is Social Media Taking Over?

In 2004, Facebook was first published.  By the end of 2004, Statistics showed that Facebook had one million users. By March of 2013, that number was 1.11 million. A pretty big leap? I am sure most of you guys have a Facebook. Pretty much everyone does at this point. My question is What’s the big deal? Why do we spend so much time on these social media sites? Why do we feel the need to be constantly checking and updating these sites?  Facebook was one of the first social media sites that was introduced. Today we have Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat. I know the idea is to be able to stay connected with family and friends from various parts of the world. I think on one side of the coin, Facebook is a good way to keep in touch with people you may not see on a daily bases. However, I believe it’s important at times to disconnect all devices and social media and just live in the moment. Talk to people face to face, Go for a walk, read a book, ect….

  1. I agree with you, I believe most, if not all, users have an itch to be constantly checking their social media account. It seems as if people would ‘die’ without it. A lot has changed from past decades and they seemed to live perfectly fine without social media. Sometimes i wonder if we are truly better off..
