Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML)

For this article, I aim to unpack the impact of the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Today, as we know it Intelligence is no longer this esoteric concept that is exclusive only to humans. Believe it or not, machines have also become scarily intelligent. Backed by data and analytics, machines have eliminated “guesswork,” ultimately, they have allowed us to make a more educated decision. In years to come the technology behind AI and machine learning will get more sophisticated, hence creating much smarter machines. Artificial intelligence and machine learning has and will continue to have a big impact on digital media. It has impacted how we consume and search for media. We already have unprecedented amounts of information available at our fingertips, and at the command of our voice. Artificial Intelligence and machine learning will continue to impact various aspects of our life such as purchasing decisions, media we consume etc.

Both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are oftentimes used interchangeably but they are quite different.

I think that this article was written by Bernard Marr via Forbes beautifully sums of the differences:

“Artificial Intelligence is the broader concept of machines being able to carry out tasks in a way that we would consider “smart” And, Machine Learning is a current application of AI based around the idea that we should really just be able to give machines.” -Bernard Marr

  1. Really great insight, Dan. I think it is interesting to point out the growing power that machines have gained in today’s world. People are becoming more educated about AI and in turn the algorithms are becoming more vast and dense in these machines. I think the Amazon Alexa is a great example of this. The ability to pick up voice recognition and detect almost anything a person says is quite amazing. I think we can use this technology for many more important things like scientific research and things alike, not only for recreational use.
